Charlotte Area Holiday Tree Disposal Quick Tips

RECYCLE YOUR HOLIDAY TREE… IN THE LAKE!

This year, consider donating your tree to a good cause: Lake Norman Shriner Club and Lake Norman Wildlife Conservationists.

WIN WIN WIN

It’s a triple winner; clean-up is made easy for you, it benefits the lake and surrounding environment, and funds are donated to a good cause.

Sinking recycled Christmas trees into freshwater helps create a more favorable ecosystem for fish by attracting tiny organisms and smaller fish that the larger species rely on for food.

PREPPING YOUR TREE IS EASY

Simply remove all lights, ornaments and the stand, then place your tree outside on your scheduled pick-up date.

Schedule a tree pick-up by texting your name, address and desired pick-up date: 919-548-2213 or email lknshrineclub@gmail.com – or fill out the form here.

WHAT’S NEXT FOR YOUR TREE

After collections are complete, the trees will be lowered into Lake Norman near Strutts Marina creating a new space for some very happy fish. Last year, more than 200 trees were turned into habitats!

PROCEEDS BENEFIT SHRINERS HOSPITAL

Please include a $20 donation (though any amount is appreciated) to benefit Shriners Hospital. A member of the Lake Norman Shrine Club will collect your generous donation when they come to pick up the tree.

WANT TO JUST TAKE IT TO THE CURB?

Make sure to check your Community’s HOA guidelines on when a tree can be placed on the curb – each association varies.

Also depending on which town you live in, collection dates and requirements may be differ.

In general, you will need to prep your tree for disposal by removing all of the decorations (Christmas trees are usually not permitted in regular waste bins).
